Jay Hauser biography

I am a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Los Angeles.

My research is in experimental particle physics, and I have been mostly looking for physics beyond the "Standard Model" my whole research career, somewhat ironically, contributing to the discoveries of the heaviest particles of the Standard Model: the top quark in 1994 and the Higgs boson in 2012. Currently, my research focuses on high-energy experimental particle physics with the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. I work on two data analyses that look for unusual events not expected in the Standard Model, as well as detector work with the muon detectors of the Cathode Strip Chamber system.

I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where my early hobbies were amateur astronomy, photography, and trumpet playing. I have been a professor at UCLA since 1990. I speak Chinese and cook Chinese food reasonable well. I am married with several grown-up children, and when not working, enjoy playing with my grandchildren, taking walks, and occasionally jogging or playing tennis.
