On-Campus Mission Statement

On-campus is a grassroots organization of teachers and educators. We formed in response to an attack upon education -- California's Proposition 187. We believe that every student, regardless of background or documentation status, should have access to an excellent public education.

Three principles have guided On-Campus since its start:

  1. Students have a right to become involved in the political process surrounding the issues that most affect their lives. Access to information is a critical component of heightened student involvement.
  2. Teachers have a right and a responsibility to become involved in political issues that affect access to education. They also have a responsibility to help educate their students around these issues.
  3. School sites form a natural base for organizing the community around issues of educational access.

On-Campus as an organization facilitates teachers' role in community-based organizing and education. By providing organizing tools and curriculum, On-Campus works toward the formation of true community-based schools.
