We will
discuss ways in which a laser driven plasma wakefield accelerator can
be used to drive a compact x-ray source. Some of the new issues that
arise in the transportation of sub ten femtosecond high brightness electron
bunches will be explored. We will present recent results from the UK
ALPHA-X project, "Advanced Laser Plasma High-energy Accelerators
towards X-rays". We will discuss the challenges of injecting ultra-short
electron bunches into the ~100 micron period plasma wave, which acts
as the accelerating medium, and the diagnostic challenges this imposes.
