LIDAR active NA layer flourescence and monitoring modified by RF ionosphere heating as new communication scheme.

The LIDAR - HIPAS has the most powerful Lidar facility in the Artic region. Students will be able to use the largest rotating mirror to receive lidar returns from the atmosphere including the sodium layer. Lidar gives good temporal and spatial resolution.

Following the first REU awareded to HIPAS one undergraduate student Brad Chouinard chose the measuremnt of the phase shift of a polar satellite passing through the ionosphere. His paper won "best student paper" from Alaska from one of the professional scientific societies.
