The ELF will
monitor the resonant frequency of the earth's atmospheric cavity using
ground-based receiving coils. The resulting data may provide information
about global warming and the nature of earth's atmospheric mantles. Students
will be able to excite these waves using the high power tyransmitter at
HIPAS and watch their decay in the earth's resonant cavity. ELF waves are of great interest because they resonate with ion cyclotron motion in the Artic atmosphere. CO2- and Cl -. (Ion Dynamics and Ozon, A.Y. Wong 1991. Negative CO2 and Cl ions. |
