: What is the difference between annular eclipse and total eclipse?

In an annular eclipse the moon is slightly further from Earth,
and thus smaller, so it doesn't completely cover the Sun.
At maximum stage, a ring of the Sun appears in the sky.
If the Moon is slightly closer to Earth at the eclipse time,
it completely covers the Sun, with none of the Sun peeking
around, and the eclipse is total
