Ok, remember that there are two main lines in the
celestial sphere to remember - the celestial
equator and the ecliptic. Remember that the
Sun and the planets and the Moon all go along the
ecliptic. That should be a big enough hint ;)

Check out the diagram on page 25 of the book - that'll
help you figure out when a half-full moon sets.
: 3. What exactly is the meridian?
The meridian is a line in the sky that
goes from North cardinal point down through
your zenith (the point exactly over your head)
to the South cardinal point.
