: what role do the 4 forces of nature play in hydrogen burning?
: what is the problem with nuetrinos in the Sun?
1. Hydrogen nuclei are protons. The electric force keeps the protons apart, except at very high temperature.
The weak force changes one of the protons into a neutron, so the two nuclei can combine.
Thus the weak force controls the burning rate.
The strong or nuclear force binds the neutron and proton together.
2. In the process of converting protons to neutrons, neutrinos are emitted.
Neutrinos can penetrate the whole core of the Sun and arrive at Earth.
But we detect only about 1/3 of the expected neutrions. That is the problem.
