Development of High-speed Optical Microscopes
By using advanced photon detectors such as HAPD and high-speed CMOS camera, Arisaka's group has been developing various types of high-speed optical microscopes in both wide Field of VIew and laser scanning confocal microscopes.Spatio-Temporal Multiplexing (STEM) Microscope for Multiple Plane Imaging
Using HAPD with GaAsP photocathode, Arisaka and Adrian Cheng have developed an innovative two photon excitation microscopes called STEM shown below.
This allows to scan multiple planes simultaneously, utilizing a slight time difference (a few ns) between each beam which corresponds to each plane. The right side picture is the actual setup at Prof. Carlos Portera-Gailliau's Lab. The detail is given in the paper below:

At Prof. Dolores Bozovic's Lab, Arisaka has set up the fastest CMOS camera (SA-1) by Phorton , together with EMCCD Camera (Andor iXon 897). This system has been the work force in measuring the motion of multiple hair cells.

At optical microscope core facility at CNSI, Arisaka has installed the ultra high-speed Image-Intencified CMOS camera, which was developed in collaboration with Photron, Japan. By combining with a Yokogawa Confocal Spinner as shown below, it is capable of taking 1,000 frame per second of confocal images.
