Version 1.34 is not the most current version. Generally I would suggest you get the most recent version. This version is available for people who have problems with the current version. The main reason, however, for keeping this version available is for people who want to use the localized interface. Currently there are fewer interfaces completed for the new version.

If you are using JFC, and upgrade your version of JWPce, make sure you have a current version of JFC (1.20).
If you upgrade from version 1.30, you will need to reset the toolbar. Double click on a blank spot in the toolbar, and then select the Reset button. Sorry for all the trouble.
If you choose to try JWPce, check the web site periodically for new releases, there are a number of great features in the works.
Due to space limitations on my web server, I have had to distribute files in a slightly different format. Basically to conserve space I have divided what used to be larger archives into smaller archives, when the same actual file can be reused. The main consequence of this is you may have to download more than one file. Additionally, because the copyright notice and readme files are in every archive, you will get file duplications when you decompress the files. Do not worry about this, simply overwrite all duplicated files, as long a your archives all contain the same version of JWPce.

- Get all four of these .exe files! (Just click on them.)

- Double click on each file.
- Find the file jwpce.exe (in your directory) double click on it.
- You are done!
Utilities
- Unzip Utilities JWPce is distributed in zip archives. If you do not have a utility to unzip these files here are two of the many different possible free unzip utilities. These programs are distributed as an executables, so you will not need a zip utility to install it, simply double click on the executable and follow the instructions.

- Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP JWPce Full Install with Extras This installation is intended for users operating on Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP machines. This includes the JWPce program, all support files and all three bitmapted Japanese font files. Full documentation and help files. This version also includes EDICT (main dictionary), ENAMDICT (Japanese name dictionary), and CLASSICAL (classical Japanese dictionary).

To use this installation you must install it in the same directory as an already existing JWP or JWPce install. Replace any files with new files obtained from the zip file. The update version does not contain the updated dictionary files. Thus if you are updating from JWP or from JWPce versions earlier than 1.30 you may want to get the new dictionary files (see below), or simply get the entire system again (see above).

FJDICT This is a link to project to generate a French version of EDICT. This dictionary is fully compatible with JWPce.
Windows CE/PocketPC
- Windows CE JWPce Actual Windows CE (PocketPC) versions of JWPce. Due to the difference between Windows CE hardware, the Windows CE versions of JWPce are distributed in two archives. The first archive contains all files necessary for installation, except the executable file. The second archive contains the actual executable program. The included text file WINCE.TXT contains additional installation instructions and information. If you are updating your version for Windows CE, you need only get the archive specific to your processor. Thus if you are updating from JWP or from JWPce versions earlier than 1.30 you may want to get the new dictionary files (see below), or reinstall.

Technical
- TECHNICAL: JWPce International Toolkit This toolkit(s) provide the tools, resource, source files, and information necessary to generate a localization file for JWPce. There are two types of tools. Only programmers can use the first set of tools. These are based on the actual resource files, but allow the most flexibility in the interface design. The second set of tools can be used by anyone and involves translating listings of strings. I will later assemble them into the localization file. With this system you do not need to know anything about programming, but the process will probably take several steps. Please read the sections on language and translation before stating a translation.
The translation kit for version 1.34 is no longer being provided. Please work on version 1.42.Languages currently being translated (based on what people have told me):

Generally, these are only useful for people wishing to modify the code, or make corrections in the databases. The tools package includes the code for each of the tools. The tools package includes a generator tool for generating the UNICODE conversion tables. A sorting tool for manipulating the radical and stroke count databases. Finally, a compression tool for compressing and restructuring Jim Breen's KANJIDIC file into a KANJINFO.DAT file that JWPce can use. An additional tool to compress the edict dictionary may also be in the works. This will allow compression of the dictionary file with on-the-fly decompression. If this is implemented, the disk space required by the dictionary files can be greatly reduced.
