1 6 65 CompHEP calculates the QCD strong coupling parameter as a function of the QCD parameter lambda6 and the Q^2 scale. This menu function calls the next-level menu which allows the user a to set a value of lambda6 and an expression for the momentum transferred Q^2. The QCD strong coupling is calculated at next-to -next-to leading (NNLO) order (see 9.5a [*]). The value depends on the number of quarks (nf) with masses less than Q. The corresponding lambda_nf is calculated according to (9.7) [*]. The scale of Q^2 may be defined either as a constant or as a squared sum of particle momenta, and in the following is used as an argument of the parton distribution functions. If Q is defined as a constant, the corresponding value of alpha=GG^2/(4*PI) is shown in the next level menu. The alpha(s) plots for the region of 's' defined by the user can be displayed.
