To-do List for PMT Test stand
Spring Break
- Light source: Full integration needed. To be done Monday and
Tuesday. Because we will be need to shuttle to Knudsen a bit for
some components, this may take an extra day.
- Table: In control. Shop to start building Tuesday.
- Will use scope to directly measure the base currents.
- CAMAC: Have code to drive our crate controller. Would like Shimul
(if possible) to put together a simple single-channel CAMAC code. Will
then use this to build a multi-channel system.
- Will need to design/build cable feed through.
- In the process of doing this there will be lots of clean
up/organization. What we really need is one-week's dedicated effort to
get the lab "walking". Once the lab is walking, getting it running
will be much easier.
March 21, 2001
- Test computer
- System basically works.
- Use testbed computer to try newer (=less prone to hacking) Linux.
- Louis in final configuration with 2.4.1 Linux kernel.
- Simple light source control code written and works.
- Interface board/box
- Digital part in reasonable shape except inputs not properly terminated.
- Analog part now also in reasonable shape. Needs testing. (C.H.)
- Add power-supply fanout. (C.H.)
- Build fairly neat prototype boards and put in rack mount with
decent connectors. More work than it seems. Work has started. (C.H.)
- Ready for integrated power light-source tests after termination on
inputs.
- LED pulser.
- Two exist. Second needs testing. (C.J.)
- Wider angle LEDs at UCLA. Could be used in test setup.
- UV LEDs exist at UCLA. Ready for relative efficiency measurements.
- Study angular dist of light and using dark room room/table geometry
figure out how much diffusion is needed.
- Integrate light-source system. This is one week's
hard work for all the people involved in the above items.
- Physical mounting for PMTs and relative
intensities at different locations.
- Design table and subsections. (D.B. A.T.)
- Relative light intensities at different locations. (D.B. A.T.)
- Measure QE of some standard PMTs to determine above. (D.B. A.T.)
- Design plan to determine how we will measure the relative
efficiencies of PMTs and how we will double check that it is not
changing. (D.B. A.T.)
- Design the diffuser to spread light from LED over all PMTs. (D.B. A.T.)
- CAMAC daq system.
- PREP shipped "everything" in February
- except PCI card which should arrive today
- Camac work will not begin until early March in earnest, but
Shimul's camac experience will be really handy here. I would like to
use all of Shimul's time to work on this when the time comes to work
on this.
- Want a simple CAMAC read system in place soon.
- STRB infrastructure
- Electronics rack. We have a lousy one. Will buy a decent one this
week or early next week. (Lucky's truck.)
- Keys/keycode.
- Transport of hardware to STRB. (mostly done)
- Internet line. (in place)
- Phone line. (non existent, but my cell)
- door frame. (much better now)
- ventillation. (on hold)
